University Medical Center of El Paso Partners With EZDI to Implement CDI and Code Audit Modules
WASHINGTON D.C. October 26, 2021— University Medical Center of El Paso optimized daily processes by partnering with EZDI to address elements hindering business operations after administration identified gaps in CDI workflows and internal communications between nurses and providers. EZDI, which was recently acquired by AGS Health, helped the hospital to improve its clinical specificity and documentation quality.
After an in-depth audit of processes, the team identified gaps in available workflow tools and existing processes still relied on spreadsheets. The biggest challenge: ensuring physicians remain well-trained on documentation improvement.
The hospital reached out to EZDI to address these challenges and improve their Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) and auditing workflows. The teams from El Paso and EZDI discussed the challenges and the desired outcomes before deciding on a working solution.
EZDI implemented its advanced CDI, audit and analytics modules to El Paso’s Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) with ease.
EZDI’s CDI modules increased the productivity of some hospital staff by as much as 30-40 percent. The audit module provided workflow optimization for prospective and retrospective auditing on targeted accounts by physicians, coders, diagnosis and procedure. The analytics module provided customizable reporting on coder productivity, auditor productivity, coding patterns and physician behavior.
“Having been here for almost 20 years and having gone through many software and hardware implementations, I must say this process has gone very well for the end-users thus far.”
Dr. Veronica Greer, Physician Advisor at UMC.
“University Medical Center of El-Paso is a parent facility of El Paso Children’s Hospital, an existing EZDI customer. After successful implementation of EZDI’s Computer-assisted CDI at EPCH, UMC decided to engage EZDI as their preferred technology partner for Clinical Documentation Improvement,.
